Rangers defenseman K’Andre Miller has been suspended for three games for unsportsmanlike conduct following an incident during Sunday's win over the Los Angeles Kings where he spit in the direction of defenseman Drew Doughty.

Miller was fined $15,000 and will miss the Rangers' upcoming games against the Philadelphia Flyers, Ottawa Senators, and Boston Bruins. He can return when New York travels to face the Montreal Canadiens next Thursday.

He was given a five-minute major and game misconduct following the incident with Doughty, and said earlier this week that it was "completely accidental."

"I have all the respect in the world for Drew Doughty and what happened was completely accidental," Miller tweeted. "I would never intend to do something like that on purpose, it goes against everything I am as a person and player. I felt awful about it and I am thankful Drew gave me the opportunity to apologize and explain myself in person after the game."

Miller's suspension comes at a bad time for the Rangers, with the status of defenseman Ryan Lindgren (who has been dealing with an upper-body injury) up in the air.
