The Rangers have some interest in trading Tony DeAngelo for Calgary Flames C Sam Bennett, USA Today's Vince Mercogliano reported Friday morning.

TSN's Bob McKenzie has reported that the Flames have inquired about DeAngelo, but a straight swap of the two players wouldn't work based on the money — and since DeAngelo is clearly the better player.

DeAngelo signed a two-year, $9.6 million deal in October and put up more than four times as many points as Bennett last season. Bennett's deal comes with a $2.55 million cap hit before he becomes a restricted free agent this summer.

Bennett put up just 12 points (eight goals and four assists) in 52 games last season and has just one assist in nine games so far this year — but he's earned the reputation as a clutch player.

In 30 career playoff games, Bennett has registered 19 points (11 goals and eight assists).

If the Flames believes that DeAngelo's risk-reward ratio is on the higher side and if the two sides can make the money work, then a deal could be in the cards.
