Rangers, defenseman Skjei agree to six-year deal

Defenseman Brady Skjei and the New York Rangers have agreed to terms on a six-year contract, the team announced Saturday.

Skjei, 24, was a restricted free agent. His contract is for $31.5 million, or an average of $5.25 million per season, according to ESPN.

He was the only Rangers player to play in all 82 games last season, and he had four goals and 21 assists. He ranked second on the team in hits (127) and blocked shots (119), and he led Rangers defensemen in even strength points (18), shots on goal and hits.

The Rangers selected Skjei in the first round of the 2012 NHL draft, and he has spent three seasons with the team. In that time, he has nine goals and 55 assists.
