Rangers claim Nunez, move Lincecum to 60-day DL

The Texas Rangers claimed infielder-outfielder Renato Nunez off waivers from the Oakland Athletics and transferred right-hander Tim Lincecum to the 60-day disabled list Sunday.

Nunez, 24, is expected to join the Rangers on Monday for the series opener against the Tampa Bay Rays. The versatile Venezuelan hit 32 home runs with 78 RBIs for Triple-A Nashville in 2017 but has only 17 games of big-league experience across two seasons with Oakland.

A strained left hamstring forced Nunez to open the season on the disabled list for the A's. He hit .360 (9-for-25) with two RBIs during a six-game injury rehabilitation assignment with Nashville.

Lincecum signed a one-year contract with Texas in March but has been sidelined because of a blister on his right middle finger. The 33-year-old and two-time Cy Young Award winner has not pitched in the majors since Aug. 5, 2016.

Texas will make a corresponding move to its 25-man roster to clear a spot for Nunez before Monday's game.
