Rajon Rondo’s buyout might have just killed Isaiah Thomas’ chances of landing with the Los Angeles Lakers
One Boston Celtics point guard alumnus getting bought out may well be bad news for another’s aspirations for one more shot in the league after a debilitating injury sustained with Boston in 2017 led to Isaiah Thomas’ trade to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Fellow Celtics alum Rajon Rondo’s recent liberation accord with the Memphis Grizzlies may have closed a door back into the NBA for IT via the Los Angeles Lakers, according to The Athletic’s John Krawczynski. Krawczynski recently tweeted that the “Lakers were strongly considering signing Isaiah Thomas, and things appeared to be headed that way as September approaches.”
But, “Rondo getting the buyout from Memphis clearly changed things in recent days,” the implication being that the guard they won a title with is likely their preferred option.

The former King in the Fourth may well yet find his way back into the NBA, but for now, it seems like Boston’s longtime rivals will not be the team it happens with.
