Raiders WR Bryan Edwards slated for breakout season in 2021

At this time last offseason, the buzz surrounding third-round pick Bryan Edwards couldn’t be louder. The 6’3, 225-pound receiver had an excellent training camp and ended up earning one of the starting wide receiver spots heading into Week 1.

However, Edwards wasn’t able to translate the offseason hype into on-the-field production. He missed a significant amount of the offseason with a foot injury and then got reinjured in Week 3. But the Raiders are hoping that he is past his injury problems and can make a leap in Year 2.

In a recent article by Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report, he named every team’s breakout player heading into the 2021 season. For the Raiders, it was none other than Edwards. Here is what he had to say about the second-year receiver from South Carolina:

“Despite being one of the highlights of Las Vegas Raiders training camp last year, wideout Bryan Edwards had an underwhelming rookie campaign. The third-round pick out of South Carolina suffered an ankle injury in Week 3, missed four games and did not return to the starting lineup after his recovery. Edwards finished with just 193 yards and a touchdown.

Still, Edwards did show promise before the injury, catching five passes for 99 yards in his three starts. With his replacement, Nelson Agholor, departing in free agency, Edwards should be poised to pick up where he left off pre-injury.”

On paper, Edwards is the perfect complement to Henry Ruggs as he has the size and physicality to match Ruggs’ speed. If he can stay healthy, Edwards should play a ton of snaps and could become a key player for the offense.

Look for Edwards to take a big step in 2021 after a somewhat disappointing season.
