Raiders Sean Smith arrested, charged with felony assault stemming from July 4 incident
It’s already been a tough summer for Oakland Raiders cornerback Sean Smith on the field; now, according to one report, it’s been even worse off it.
The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office announced on Thursday that Smith, a 30-year-old headed into his ninth season, was arrested and charged with multiple felony charges.
The arrest stems from a July 4 incident in Pasadena, Calif.; according to TMZ, Smith attacked his sister’s boyfriend in the early-morning hours of July 4, allegedly beating the man and stomping his head.
Smith has been charged with felony assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury and battery with serious bodily injury. Smith is set to be arraigned Sept. 29; the charges carry a maximum sentence of seven years in state prison.
According to NBC Sports California, Smith plans to fight the charges.

“Sean maintains his innocence at this time,” attorney Daniel Rosenberg told NBCSC. “We are going to be entering a plea of not guilty and fighting these charges.”
The Raiders have not yet commented on Smith’s situation.
One recent report from NFL Network’s Steve Wyche suggested that Smith, who signed a $40 million free-agent contract with Oakland in 2016, has lost his starting spot to T.J. Carrie. Smith started and played in 15 games last year.
