Raiders go quarterback in latest mock draft from The Athletic

Over the last few weeks, mock drafts have seemed to zero in on a quarterback or a cornerback for the Raiders at No. 7. The most frequently mocked non-quarterback for the Raiders has been Oregon CB Christian Gonzalez, who would fit in well in Patrick Graham’s defense.

But one of the players that we’ve seen connected to the Raiders the most at No. 7 is Kentucky QB Will Levis. With C.J. Stroud and Bryce Young likely to go at No. 1 and No. 2 in this year’s class, that means Levis might be able to slip to the Raiders. And if that’s the case, do the Raiders make that selection?

In a recent mock draft done by The Athletic, they had the Raiders selecting Levis at No. 7. Here is a snippet of their reasoning behind the pick in Round 1 via Nate Tice:

The Raiders signed Jimmy Garoppolo to a three-year, $72 million contract, but they can get out of it after this season. Having Garoppolo as insurance in case they aren’t able to nab one of this year’s top quarterbacks makes sense, but he’s also a player who can keep the seat warm as a young QB develops. And Levis’ ability to drive the ball all over the field would fit nicely in this type of offense.

Levis does seem like a strong fit in the offense under Josh McDaniels, but how quickly can he improve his accuracy? He has all the other traits to be a high-end starter in the NFL, but he needs to have better anticipation and ball placement.

Look for Levis to continue to be mocked to the Raiders at No. 7 all the way up until the draft. It’s just a fit and a pick that makes too much sense with a month to go until they are on the clock.
