Raiders named potential trade candidate for RT Teven Jenkins
It’s no secret that the Raiders need help at offensive tackle. Josh McDaniels is trying anyone and everyone at right tackle, hoping something works. So is it time for the Raiders to consider making a trade?
In a recent article by Brad Spielberger of Pro Football Focus, he named 10 players who could be traded before Week 1. That list included former second-round pick Teven Jenkins, who has already fallen out of favor in Chicago.
And since the Raiders have a need at right tackle, the move does appear to make some sense on paper. Here is what Spielberger had to say about a potential trade for the former Oklahoma State offensive tackle:
“The Las Vegas Raiders used their first-round pick in 2021 on tackle Alex Leatherwood, but he was relegated to the right guard spot to finish the 2021 campaign and frankly struggles regardless of where he lines up.
Jenkins could be an intriguing prospect at right tackle or right guard, and Raiders assistant general manager Champ Kelly was with the Bears in 2021, so he has familiarity with Jenkins and perhaps insights on the ongoing situation in Chicago.”
Spielberger believes that an early-round Day 3 pick is all that it would take for the Raiders to acquire Jenkins. But if the Raiders were to make a move like that, they better believe he is an upgrade over Alex Leatherwood, Thayer Munford and Brandon Parker.
While that could certainly be the case, Jenkins has not proven to be that so far. He’s struggled to stay on the field and he’s been working primarily with the second and third team for Chicago.
While this would certainly be an intriguing move by the Raiders, this is a trade they should avoid right now as there is just too much uncertainty around Jenkins and his NFL career.
