Queen of the South apologise after breaking Scotland’s tier 4 restrictions to allow George Galloway into match
Scottish Championship club Queen of the South have apologised after breaking tier 4 regulations to allow politician George Galloway to attend their match against Dundee on Boxing Day.
Galloway, the former MP, posted a picture of the match at Palmerston Park where he watched Saturday’s Championship encounter alongside his family, much to the anger of fans who remain locked out of games.
Under Scottish government rules, only 10 directors or senior club personnel from each team can attend a match in tier 4 restrictions, with strict rules banning guests from going to fixtures while the harshest coronavirus laws are in place.
Both the club and Galloway were barraged by angry messages on Twitter, as was Dundee’s Charlie Adam who was included in the 66-year-old’s initial tweet.
The club apologised for allowing Galloway - who says he is set to become a club sponsor - into the match and could now face disciplinary action by the Scottish Professional Football League.
"We can confirm that George Galloway did attend our game against Dundee at Palmerston yesterday,” a club statement read.
"He was socially distant within an area of the ground where he formed a bubble with his family. All Covid protocols were followed at all times.
"We would like to apologise to our supporters who have been upset by his attendance at the match."

One fan labelled the club “a disgrace” for allowing Galloway into Palmerston Park simply because he was a ‘name’ when normal fans were not allowed to attend due to the tier 4 restrictions that came into force across Scotland on Boxing Day. But Galloway defended his presence at the match.

“I’m spreading the word about the club to millions of people. Are you sure you want to speak in this way?”

The Dundee-born former Labour and Respect Party MP has only 359,712 followers on Twitter - well short of the “millions” that he boasted to be promoting the Championship club too - and to add insult to injury Queen of the South lost the match 3-1 and remain bottom of the Championship.
