Providence beats Monsters with power-play goal in overtime

Feb. 23—Host Providence's Georgii Merkulov scored a power-play goal 45 seconds into overtime, lifting the Bruins to a 4-3 victory over the Monsters on Feb. 23.

Brendan Gaunce and David Jiricek scored goals for the Monsters (30-15-3-2) in the first period. Gaunce also had two assists.

Cleveland trailed, 3-2, deep into the third period until Trey Fix-Wolansky tied it with 1:56 remaining with his 17th goal of the season.

Pavel Cajan saved 31 of the 35 shots he faced in the Cleveland net.

The teams will take Feb. 24 off before a rematch Feb. 25 at Providence.
