Prince William makes surprise appearance at school assembly: 'I worry for you girls'

Prince William surprised a London school on Thursday, where -- to the students' total shock -- he sat down to talk with kids about a serious issue that plagues us all, but perhaps teenagers in particular.

"I worry for you girls," Prince William told the students of Burlington Danes Academy after he took to the stage. The assembly was for all students, but he noted the particular pressure teen girls feel to become the picture-perfect women they see on social media.

“The touched-up pictures are not real," he continued. "Don’t try to recreate them or think that’s what you’ve got to aim for. There’s a lot of fakeness online so don’t worry about that.”

That said, he had a particular message for the young men in the audience as well: "We're not very good at talking about our emotions and how we feel," Prince William said. “Girls have got a little bit better, and boys we’ve really got to work hard on being able to talk to friends, family, and trusted people about how we feel."

His best advice? Disconnect.

"Don’t spend all day online. Seriously, don’t," he told the audience of kids aged 11 - 18. "For your mental health, get outside, come away from the screen."
