Following the Queen’s death, the entire nation and royal family members entered a mourning period until the monarch’s state funeral service. After Her Majesty was laid to rest in a private burial ceremony at Windsor Castle on Monday, the mourning period was supposed to cease. However, King Charles announced the royal family would stay in mourning for a few more days.

During this difficult time, Kate Middleton and Prince William wanted to show their appreciation to everyone who made the queen’s funeral possible. According to the BBC, the Prince and Princess of Wales traveled to Windsor Guildhall and met with staff members to show their gratitude for all of their hard work with the queen’s funeral service.

This latest public appearance marks the first time the couple was seen following Queen Elizabeth’s funeral service on September 19. The news outlet reported William greeted and spoke with staff workers and they shared their grief with the prince.

“If you flip it on its head, it is always very comforting that so many people care. It makes it a lot better,” he said, according to BBC. “There are certain moments that catch you out. You are prepared for all, but certain moments catch you out.”

Middleton also shared that she was “amazed” by everyone who showed their love and admiration for the queen following her death. “It’s amazing how many people wanted to come and pay their respects,” she said.”

In this state of mourning, members of the royal family must wear black attire in accordance with protocol. While the couple visited Windsor Guildhall, Middleton wore a black dress with gold buttons on the front, while William simply opted for a black suit and tie. The mourning period will last until September 26.

What a nice gesture by the prince and princess.
