Prince William and Kate Middleton Are Hiring a Housekeeper

There's a job opening at Kensington Palace. According to a listing posted by the royal family, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge—also known as Prince William and Kate Middleton—are in search of a new housekeeper, and will be accepting applications for the position until November 7.

The person selected will answer to their senior housekeeper, and the job description specifies that the future king and queen are looking for someone who is “able to manage a varied workload, show initiative, [and] be content to work flexibly, including being able to travel.” Perhaps most important when working for a family of such a high profile, the listing also states that “maintaining confidentiality and exercising discretion at all times is paramount.” It is a permanent role, and the listing does not specify a salary range. Currently, it is the only job opening for the royal family.

Kensington Palace, in London, is the official home base of William, Kate, and their children: Prince George, 7; Princess Charlotte, 5; and Prince Louis, 2. They live in apartment 1A, a 20-room, four-story dwelling which underwent a $1.6 million renovation before they moved in in 2013, and an additional additional $4.9 million renovation the next year. Other areas of the palace are open to visitors, with attractions including the childhood rooms of Queen Victoria. The mention of travel in the job description may mean that the housekeeper will also work at the family’s country home in Norfolk: Anmer Hall, a Georgian-style mansion located on the Sandringham estate.
