President Donald Trump Sets New Low With Sexist Twitter Attack On Mika Brzezinski

President Donald Trump this morning continued his all-out attack on media this week. But his latest tweets shocked even some political hard-liners.

In two tweets that would have gotten him fired from most companies, and certainly ended most political careers, the President of the United States first trashed MSNBC’s Morning Show co-host Joe Scarborough, who he called “Psycho.” But it was his remark about Mika Brzezinski that has people talking:

And faster than you can say “this is the guy who insisted he was ‘going to be able to do things for women that no other candidate would be able to do’,” Morning Joe was trending – worldwide – on Twitter.

Our president seems to have a “thing” for imagining female journalists bleeding.

Back in August of 2015, as the first GOP debate, co-moderator Kelly pressed Trump about his many misogynistic and sexist attacks on women over the years, calling them “fat pigs, dogs, slobs and disgusting animals.” She wondered why he thought women should vote for him.

Back then, Trump slammed Kelly’s questions as “ridiculous” and “off-base.” And, appearing soon thereafter on CNN Trump told Don Lemon, of Kelly, “You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes. Blood coming out of her wherever.”

Nearly two years later, this morning, The Women Of The White House cheered on Trump’s “bleeding….facelift” tweet.

First Lady Melania Trump was enthusiastic:

“As the First lady has stated publicly in the past, when her husband gets attacked, he will punch back 10 times harder” FLOTUS Communications Director Stephanie Grisham said in a statement about Melania, who had said that, as First Lady, she would focus on the scourge of cyberbullying.

Deputy White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, meanwhile told Fox News Channel’s Bill Hemmer, “what’s necessary is to push back against unnecessary attacks on the president,” insisting, “I’ve seen far worse things coming out of that show…personal attacks, mean, hateful attacks.”

Hemmer responded, “is that necessary?” adding, “It seems like it is entirely more personal than it needs to be.”

This morning’s Trump’s tweets – which, to recap, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer has said are official statements from the office of the President – do not seem to be mere bad-morning sound and fury, but part of a coordinated White House campaign with Morning Joe in today’s crosshairs.

Earlier this morning, White House director of social media Dan Scavino tweeted:

Reactions are pouring in. Let’s start with Mika – since Ivanka hasn’t weighed in yet:

MSNBC weighed in with a statement” “It’s a sad day for America when the president spends his time bullying, lying and spewing petty personal attacks instead of doing his job.”

Navarro, you’ll remember, became a household name – and late-night show darling – when Trump surrogate Scottie Nell Hughes told her to stop saying “pussy” on air because her young daughter was watching the post-midnight debate about the just-released tape of our future president boasting he liked to he grab women “by the pussy.”

Reza Aslan – now unfettered by a relationship with CNN, after tweeting of Trump: “This piece of sh*t is not just an embarrassment to America and a stain on the presidency. He’s an embarrassment to humankind,” outdid his previous effort:

Commentary associate editor Noah Rothman reminded this is what moral conservatives warned when a vulgarian became the party’s candidate:

Conservative commentator/Sen. John McCain’s daughter has weighed in:

Some Republican politicians spoke out against their party leader’s latest tantrum:

“Mr. President, your tweet was beneath the office and represents what is wrong with American politics, not the greatness of America,” tweeted GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham.

“Please just stop,” chimed in GOP Sen. Ben Sasse. “This isn’t normal. And it’s beneath the dignity of your office.”

Trump fan/pal Bill O’Reilly complained it was hard to find media coverage this morning of major bills on the floor of the House, though he did not assign blame:

And, to that point, House Speaker Paul Ryan, hoping to get through a morning presser about his immigration bill, got a question about Trump’s bloody Brzezinski tweet.

“Obviously I don’t see that as an appropriate comment,’ Ryan said.

“Look, what we’re trying to do around here is improve the tone, the civility of the debate. Obviously this doesn’t help do that,” added Ryan in a master stroke of understatement.

Meanwhile, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi concluded there is “something wrong” with Trump:

That really saddens me because it is so beneath the dignity of the President of the United States to engage in such behavior,” adding that Republicans “set a low standard for public officials in terms of their demeanor.”

“It’s really sad though,” she added. “This is President of the United States. Something is wrong there.”

Meanwhile, GOP leaders working on a compromise Trumpcare bill that could actually get enough votes to pass, were in for a rough morning.

Booked on news programs to discuss the mad rush to get to kumbaya on Trumpcare by Friday, they’re instead getting asked to comment on Trump’s tweets. Mostly uncomfortable deflection is following the question.

New York’s Rep Tom Reed, for instance, told CNN, he had only that moment been made aware of the tweet, adding “I don’t know the context…but obviously concerned about that type of language. And maybe the intent is to distract from the health-care debate.
But I want to be part of the debate that’s impacting the American people.”

“I’m not sure the context of the tweet matters,” John Berman shot back. “The White House likes to say ‘The tweet speaks for itself’.”
