PREP SPORTS: Cold Springs' Edgeworth named Athlete of the Week

Nov. 15—There isn't much more that can be said about Ethan Edgeworth.

The Cold Springs senior and Tennessee signee capped off an impressive prep career on the trails with a dominant performance at Saturday's state cross country meet.

Not only did he collect his fourth straight Class 1A/2A title — the first-ever boys runner to accomplish the feat — but he also recorded the fastest 5K in state history, a 14:34.29 that bettered the previous mark of 14:36.88 turned in by Vestavia Hills' Ethan Strand in 2021, and helped the Eagles notch their fifth state championship.

In 44 cross country meets since 2019, Edgeworth racked up 27 wins, 37 Top 3s and 43 Top 10s.

He is The Times' Athlete of the Week.

Athlete of the Week, which is sponsored by Mitch Smith Chevrolet, is open to all local athletes.

Nominations can be sent to jwinfrey@cullmantimes.com with the person's name, school and statistics.
