Prep roundup: Willmar Cardinals trio does the trick

Jan. 5—WILLMAR — Behind a trio that filled in the top three spots in the all-around, the Willmar gymnastics team earned a win against Brainerd on Friday.

The Cardinals topped Brainerd 138.450-130.975 en route to the Central Lakes Conference victory. Willmar is eighth in the Class A rankings by the Minnesota Girls Gymnastics Coaches Association.

Lyndi Koosman led the Cardinals' all-around performers. The senior took first place with a 36.025. She took first place on floor (9.450), vault (9.400) and bars (9.025).

Next up for Willmar was sophomores Carlee Brown and Mallory Beier, who finished second and third in the all-around. Brown had 34.900 and Beier followed with 34.650.

Brown's top finish came on the balance beam, as she scored an 8.525 to secure first place. She also finished second on bars and floor, while taking third on vault.

Beier had a pair of second place finishes on beam and vault. Her highest score came on vault at 9.275.

Willmar next competes at Fergus Falls at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato picked up its third win of the season and second straight at Litchfield Civic Arena.

The Dragons go to Willmar Civic Center Arena at 1:30 p.m. Saturday to play the Cardinals.

Delano/Rockford scored three unanswered goals in its victory over Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato at Delano Area Sports Arena.

Delano/Rockford got goals from Emma Treptau, Mckenzie Perry, Kaelyn Wittwer and Avery Coppin.

The Dragons' Krista Tormanen scored. Her goal came off assists from Camryn Iverson and Lydia Schultz.

Litchfield/D-C goes to Willmar Civic Center Arena at 3:30 p.m. Saturday to play the Cardinals.

Fort Frances (Ontario) shut out the Morris/Benson Storm at Lee Community Center in Morris.

Fort Frances' goals came from Hayden Allam, Courtney McCoy, Ella Evans and Sienna Tom. All four goals were even strength.

Ava Breuer made 32 saves between the pipes for the Storm.

Morris/Benson plays Fort Frances at 1 p.m. Saturday back at Lee Community Center.
