PREP ROUNDUP: West Morgan stays perfect with win over Haleyville

Nov. 4—HALEYVILLE — West Morgan wrapped up the fourth perfect regular season in program history on Friday, defeating Haleyville 42-12 to improve to 10-0.

The Rebels, who finished unbeaten in regular season play for the first time since 2002, will open play in the Class 4A playoffs next week at home against Etowah.

Braxton Peters completed 17-of-20 passes for 175 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Rebels. He also rushed four times for 62 yards and another score.

Jalen Fletcher carried the ball 15 times for 167 yards and two touchdowns and caught five passes for 48 yards and a touchdown. Harrison Johnson had one touchdown reception.

Defensively, West Morgan was led by ShaMarvion Mosley's 13 tackles. He also forced and recovered a fumble. Walker Letson had five tackles, including a pair of sacks.

Hayden Ramos had a 1-yard touchdown run for Haleyville and Cooper McNutt completed a 20-yard touchdown pass to Evan Cagle.

Scottsboro 35, Decatur 20: Aairon Savage's first season at the helm for Decatur (3-7) came to an end with a tough road loss on Friday.

Bradin Dupper passed for 110 yards, including touchdown passes to Wyatt Smith (7 yards) and Rhys Dorsey (22 yards), while rushing for 137 yards and a touchdown.

Smith finished with 83 receiving yards for Decatur. Dayton Swoopes rushed for 99 yards.

Decatur Heritage 21, Colbert Heights 20: Budda Taylor rushed for touchdowns of 20 and 38 yards as Decatur Heritage wrapped up the regular season with a win over Class 3A Colbert Heights on Friday.

Decatur Heritage (9-1) will host Winterboro in the opening round of the Class 1A playoffs next Friday.

Savarius Evans had a 57-yard touchdown for the Eagles, who led 21-7 at halftime.

Hanceville 41, East Lawrence 26: Jaylan Smith accounted for three total touchdowns (one rushing, one passing, one kick return) as East Lawrence (2-8) saw its season come to an end at home on Friday.

Smith returned the game's opening kick for an 87-yard touchdown to give East Lawrence an early lead. He added a 27-yard touchdown pass to Cayne McClure and a 2-yard touchdown run as the Eagles built an 18-6 lead midway through the second quarter.

Hanceville rallied to score three second-half touchdowns to erase the deficit and come away with the win. Tim Carter added a 3-yard touchdown run for East Lawrence with just under four minutes to play.

East Limestone 29, Mae Jemison 28: Jake Cochran completed 14-of-22 passes for 177 yards and three fourth-quarter touchdowns as East Limestone rallied from a 21-7 deficit to close out the season with a win on Friday.

Trailing 21-7 midway through the fourth, Cochran completed touchdown passes for Roman Schrimsher (8 yards), Bryson Grissom (18 yards) and Garrett Ritter (8 yards) to put the Indians in position to tie the game or take the lead with less than a minute to play.

Cochran connected with Ritter on the two-point attempt with 50 seconds to play to give the Indians the lead and, ultimately, the win.

Xavier Edwards opened the game with a 20-yard touchdown run for East Limestone and finished with 138 yards on 20 carries.

—In other games featuring area teams on Friday: Brewer defeated Danville 56-14, Central-Florence defeated Ardmore 49-21 and St. John Paul II topped Elkmont 42-20.

Basketball

Hartselle girls 71, Blount 52: Hannah Burks scored a game-high 23 points as Hartselle picked up a win at the Gulf Shores Tip Off Tournament on Friday.

Gracie Hill (12) and Ella Springer (11) also scored in double figures for the Tigers, who led 41-19 at halftime.

Brewer girls 45, Tanner 13: Lilly Yancey scored a game-high 12 points as Brewer picked up a win at the Decatur Tip Off Tournament on Thursday.

Chloe Romine added nine points for the Patriots (1-0) and Bailey Hale scored six.
