Mar. 1—Baseball

COLLEGE

CONNORS STATE 10, NEO A&M 2 — Connors State took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning as Blake Simpson singled home a run and an error by NEO brought across the second. In the bottom fifth, the Golden Norsemen tied the game on a Cowboy error and a ground out. Connors State took back the lead for good in the top of the seventh as two runs scored on an error and David Stanley had an RBI single to make the score, 5-2.

The Cowboys closed out the game as they scored five runs on two hits in the top of the eighth. Twine Palmer earned the win on the mound scattering five hits and striking out nine. Brannon Westmoreland and Tyler Bates both threw shutout innings in relief for CSC. Simpson led the Cowboys (18-0, 1-0 OCAC) as he finished 3-for-5 and Stanley had two hits and two RBIs.

PREP

PORUM 11, WETUMKA 1 — Porum took a 3-0 lead in the first inning as Cooper Franklin grounded out, Rylind Tillery walked and Caden Robinson was hit by a pitch. The Pirates (1-0), who only had two hits for the game, scored eight runs in the third inning to finalize the game. Gage Scarberry was the winning pitcher as he went three innings of no hit ball and struck out five. Isaiah Sallee registered the save and Franklin finished with a trio of RBIs.

SUMMIT CHRISTIAN 16, PORTER 15 — Carson Bindrum went 3-for-3 and scored 5 runs in the losing effort to lead Porter (4-1). Landyn Smith added two hits, one of them a double, and scored three runs.

WEBBERS FALLS 12, BOKOSHE 0 — Webbers Falls cruised to the three-inning win as it was helped by 10 Bokoshe errors. Elliot Kunkel led the Warriors (1-0) at the plate with two hits, an RBI and two runs while Maddox Shelby brought home two runs and scored three times. Ben Ward had three RBIs and Luke Peirce had two. Stryker Chappell earned the victory as he pitched a no-hitter and struck out six.

CLASS 2A AREA IV CONSOLATION

AT ROLAND — Jace Jackson sparked No. 13 Warner to a 62-47 win over No. 15 Colcord as he finished with 23 points. Reed Pickering added 14 points and Jaxson Cash ended with 10. The Eagles (15-11) led 24-21 at halftime.

CLASS 2A AREA III CONSOLATION

AT STRIDE BANK CENTER — No. 3 Hooker defeated No. 9 Oktaha, 61-41 to eliminate the Tigers (18-9).

CLASS 4A AREA IV CONSOLATION

AT STROUD — Fort Gibson remained alive for a state tournament berth with an 81-64 win over Catoosa. The Tigers (18-9) trailed once the entire game when the Indians scored the opening basket of the contest. Fort Gibson led 19-10 after the first period, 36-17 at half and 58-42 heading into the final period. No stats available as of press time.

GIRLS

CLASS 4A AREA III CONSOLATION

AT MVSKOKE DOME — Wagoner used a 16-3 run in the third period to help it defeat Elk City, 59-39 on Thursday. The No. 11 Lady Bulldogs (22-5), who had trailed 25-24 at the half, were sparked by Gracy Shieldnight who finished with a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds while also recording five blocks. Brooklyn Austin added 10 points all coming in the second half. For the game Wagoner out rebounded Elk City, 29-16. The win ties for the school record with the 1993 squad.

CLASS 2A AREA IV CONSOLATION

AT ROLAND — Harlie Chesser had 21 points as No 8 Warner beat Afton, 48-36. The Lady Eagles (19-7) had a 26-15 halftime lead before Afton cut the deficit to seven, 34-27, going to the fourth period. Kaylen Park and Alexis Fowler both added 10 points.

CLASS 2A AREA III CONSOLATION

AT STRIDE BANK CENTER — Oktaha's season came to an end as it fell to No. 13 Cashion, 70-45. Ryleigh Bacon led the No. 5 Lady Tigers with a double-double, 10 points and 11 rebounds, while also registering seven steals. Cashion finished with 11 three-pointers while Oktaha (23-6) struggled to shoot just over 30 percent for the night.
