PREP ROUNDUP: Priceville girls open Morgan tourney with 10-0 win

Feb. 23—Seven players scored goals as the Priceville girls opened the 2024 Morgan County Tournament with a 10-0 win over Brewer at the Jack Allen Soccer Complex.

Weather permitting, tournament play continues Friday with championship matches scheduled for Saturday.

AK Hopkins shined for Priceville on Thursday, scoring three goals and assisting on three others as the Bulldogs rolled. Lillian Bloodworth had two goals, while Kenzie Bowling, Anna Leigh Pilkington, Kathilyn Taylor, Madelyn Kennedy and Amidst Wilder added one goal each.

Bowling, Kennedy, CJ Nelson and Mae Vick all had one assist each for Priceville, and Tori Staats recorded one save in goal.

Priceville will face Decatur in one semifinal Friday at 5 p.m., with the winners of West Morgan-Austin and Hartselle-Danville scheduled to play in the other.

Decatur boys 3, Priceville 2: Diego Quintero and Landon Byer had one goal each for Priceville in the opening round of the Morgan County Tournament on Thursday. Coen England had one assist for the Bulldogs.

Decatur advances to face the winner of Hartselle-Danville in one semifinal Friday. Austin, who received a first-round bye, will play the winner of West Morgan-Brewer in the other semifinal.


Brewer 15, Decatur 0: Cadence Lott and Karli Staton combined on a one-hit shutout as Brewer picked up a big win on Thursday.

Lott got the start and worked two innings, allowing one hit with two strikeouts. Staton pitched a scoreless final inning for the Patriots, striking out two.

Lott finished with a pair of hits and four RBIs to lead Brewer's offense, while Staton added a double and four RBIs. Elizabeth Kresch had one hit for Decatur.

Lawrence County 8, West Morgan 4: AB McKay doubled twice and drove in two runs for Lawrence County on Thursday.

McKenzie Hyche had three hits and one RBI for the Red Devils, while Lara Anne Norwood added two hits and one RBI. Kaytie LouAllen pitched three innings for the win, striking out four.

Hartselle 11, Sparkman 9: Kaelyn Jones went 4-for-4 with three RBIs to lead Hartselle in a win on Wednesday.

Katie Norgard had two hits, including a homer, and two RBIs for the Tigers, while Katie Gillott added a hit and two RBIs. Tiger Howell pitched 6 2/3 innings for the win.


Decatur 14, Albertville 2: Grayson Marion went 3-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored for Decatur on Thursday.

Reeves Waller had three hits, including a double, and two RBIs for the Red Raiders, while Trey Greenwell added a hit and three RBIs. Put Webster singled twice, drove in two runs and pitched four innings for the win, striking out four.

East Lawrence 12, Tharptown 2: Lane Smith had two hits, including a grand slam, and six RBIs for East Lawrence on Thursday.

Tim Carter had a hit and two RBIs for the Eagles, while Carson Posey added two hits. Smith pitched all six innings for the win, allowing one earned run on five hits with eight strikeouts.

Elkmont 11, West Limestone 10: Keaton Wallace had two hits and two RBIs to lead Elkmont on Thursday.

Joey Richards had a pair of hits, including a homer, and one RBI for the Red Devils and Andrew Jackson doubled twice and drove in a run. Wallace pitched one inning of relief for the win, striking out two.

Weston Owens had a hit and two RBIs for West Limestone, while Hayden Hill added three hits and one RBI.

Grissom 9, Austin 2: Easton Palmer doubled and drove in a pair of runs for Austin on Thursday.

Paxton Branum had one hit and scored one run for the Black Bears, while Chet Lowman and Maddox Mitchell added one run each.

Fairview 11, Brewer 3: Cole Drinkard had a hit and two RBIs for Brewer on Thursday.

Brayden Murphy, Logan Powers and Chase Smith had two hits each for the Patriots, who couldn't overcome six errors despite logging 11 total hits.

Good Hope 4, Danville 2: Reece Cowart had a hit and one RBI for Danville on Thursday. Kason Jeffries also drove in a run for the Hawks.

West Point 4, West Morgan 0: Harrison Johnson went 2-for-3 for West Morgan on Thursday, finishing with a double and a single.

Colbert County 4, Hatton 3: Jalen Heaps singled and drove in a pair of runs for Hatton on Thursday.

Nick Borden had one hit and one RBI for the Hornets, while Parker Huff added two hits, including a double.
