PREP ROUNDUP: Parke Heritage girls win 11th straight

Jan. 12—Foul trouble for leading scorer Emma Simpson couldn't stop Parke Heritage in girls high school basketball Thursday night as the Wolves routed Covington 64-23 in a Wabash River Conference game.

Cate O'Brien had 16 points and Addilee Jenkins had 15 plus seven rebounds and five assists in the Wolves' 11th straight win, while Simpson still managed 14 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.

Parke Heritage is now 17-3, 5-0 in the WRC, and hosts Cloverdale in a varsity-only contest on Tuesday. Covington, 9-11 and 3-3, hosts Crawfordsville on Tuesday.

—Riverton Parke 35, Crawfordsville 21 — At Mecca, Haylee Mathas had 11 points and Kenzie Nowicki 10 as the host Panthers won a nonconference game.

Now 5-13, the Panthers played Friday at Attica. Crawfordsville, 0-17, hosts Monrovia on Saturday.

—Clay City 58, Bloomfield 45 — At Clay City, the host Eels picked up their first SouthWestern Indiana Athletic Conference win of the season on Thursday.

Now 7-12 overall and 1-5 in the SWIAC, the Eels play Saturday afternoon at South Vermilllion. Bloomfield, 1-18 and 0-5, hosts West Vigo on Tuesday.

—Shakamak 48, North Vermillion 34 — At Jasonville, Ema Yanouskova got her team off to a good start Thursday with three first-quarter 3-pointers as the Lakers won a nonconference game.

Yanouskova had 11 points and Madelyn Kennett 10 for the Lakers, now 14-5, who host Lighthouse Christian on Saturday.

Braxtyn Dunham led all scorers with 18 points for the Falcons, 8-10, who host South Vermillion on Tuesday.

—Effingham 44, Paris 38 — At Paris, Ill., the host Tigers couldn't overcome a 10-point halftime deficit in a nonconference game Wednesday.

Graci Watson led the 13-8 Paris team with 12 points.
