Prep Roundup: Morris/Benson Area storms past Fairmont

Jan. 19—MORRIS — The Morris/Benson Area Storm boys hockey team beat Fairmont 10-0 Friday at the Lee Community Center.

It marks the second time this season the Storm (7-8-0) have won by 10 goals. MBA defeated Redwood Valley 11-1 on Dec. 27.

MBA stormed ahead in the second period, scoring six goals. Five came from different skaters. Zach Wrobleski scored a pair of goals and Tucker Blume scored his second of the game short-handed after scoring in the first period.

Also adding goals in the second period were Braeden Mattheisen, Charlie Goff and Logan Hadfield on the power-play.

Bryce Lehman potted a pair of goals in the third period. Alex Carlson also scored.

Nate Bratton earned the shutout victory for the Storm, making 12 saves.

The two teams play again at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Lee Community Center.

Karlie Bruns scored all six goals for the Morris/Benson Storm in their win against Fairmont at the Lee Community Center in Morris.

Bruns, a senior forward, has 33 goals and seven assists in 17 games.

Melrose swept the top three in the all-around and the four events in its win against Benson/Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg at Melrose.

Lexi Hoberg finished fifth in the all-around for Benson/KMS, totaling 32.975.

Benson/KMS had two gymnasts earn a fourth place finish. Hoberg scored 8.400 on the balance beam to tie Melrose's Teresia Nathe. Sophie Hilleren scored 8.850 on floor exercise.

Benson/KMS next hosts Redwood Valley at 6 p.m. Monday at Benson.
