PREP ROUNDUP: Late-inning magic lifts Good Hope past Cold Springs 6-5; Benefield shines for Raiders in softball win

Mar. 12—Good Hope's varsity baseball team snatched victory from the jaws of defeat on Tuesday night, overcoming a late and challenging deficit at home en route to a 6-5 win over Cold Springs.

The Raiders (5-4) trailed 5-2 with two outs in the seventh inning before putting together their run.

Carter Rutherford singled, Ayden Black drew a walk after falling behind in the count 0-2 and Caden Drake hit an RBI double to make it 5-3. Carter Naramore then followed with a two-run single to send the game into extra innings.

In the bottom of the eighth, Brady Stripling worked a leadoff walk before being removed for pinch-runner Kane Anderson, who advanced to third base one batter later following a Cold Springs error on a bunt attempt from Dakota Overton. Anderson then came around to score the walk-off run shortly afterward on a passed ball.

Naramore (four RBIs), Drake (RBI) and Stripling all finished with two hits. Naramore's two-run single in the sixth inning put the Raiders on the board and made it a 4-2 contest. Drake also pitched all eight innings, scattering 12 hits and seven strikeouts.

Mason Gable (two RBIs), Josh Winfrey and Lindan Hill paced Cold Springs (3-8) with two hits apiece. Brady Phillips, meanwhile, was solid on the mound for the Eagles, scattering six hits and five strikeouts across seven innings.
