PREP ROUNDUP: Cullman soccer sweeps Mae Jemison on Senior Night; West Point baseball sweeps Jasper

Apr. 4—Cullman's varsity soccer teams celebrated Senior Night on Thursday with a sweep of Mae Jemison.

The girls needed just one half to defeat the Jaguars 11-0 by mercy rule, while the boys rolled to a 5-1 victory in the nightcap.

Cullman 11, Mae Jemison 0

Cullman's Adrianne Lynn scored four goals, including two before most had settled into their seats at Oliver Woodard Stadium, to lead the Bearcats to an easy win.

Mae Jemison played with just six players on the field and Cullman took its foot off the throttle in the latter stages of the first half before the game was called.

Including Lynn, eight Bearcats netted goals.

McKenzee Gregory, Anna Grace Livengood, Julianna Laney, Bri Flanagan, Anna Farrell, Livi Caretti and Nora Sheffield each found the back of the net.

Cullman 5, Mae Jemison 1

Cullman found itself in a 1-0 hole early, but it was all Bearcats the rest of the way.

The Jaguars managed to break through in the seventh minute and neither team did much until the final minute of the first half. With 57 seconds to go until the break, Daniel De Jesus controlled a deflection from the Mae Jemison keeper and buried a shot into the net.

Then, early in the second half, Gianpaolo Cipollari put Cullman ahead with a shot from 15 yards out. Josue Sanchez then scored two straight goals, one off a corner kick from Cipollari. The final goal came off the foot of Wyatt Harris. The team's starting keeper subbed in at striker and took advantage of the opportunity by blasting a penalty kick into the net with less than a minute remaining.

Cullman improved to 10-5-2 on the season and will resume area play at Hartselle on Monday night.
