Prep report: Cloquet girls breeze through 7AAA playoff opener

Feb. 28—Cloquet allowed just five first-half points and routed Hibbing 58-20 to open the Section 7AAA girls basketball tournament on Wednesday night, Feb. 28 in Cloquet.

The second-seeded Lumberjacks scored 34 of their own in the first half, putting three players into double figures before clearing their bench. Quinn Danielson led the way with 13, while Ava Carlson and Carly Johnson scored 10 apiece.

Cloquet (18-9) will host Grand Rapids in a 7AAA semifinal on Saturday.

A 31-point night for the Vikings' Ella Kuhlman was way too much for the Hawks to overcome on the road in a 7AAA quarterfinal on Wednesday.

Kuhlman made six 3-pointers for North Branch, which led 35-19 at the half.

Hermantown got a team-best 12 points from Olivia Johnson finishes the 2023-24 campaign 7-20.

The Wolverines' Maija Lamppa joined the 1,000-point club as her top-seeded Wolverines team breezed into the 7AAA semifinals against North Branch on Saturday.

The Greyhounds' season came to an end at the hands of a Centennial squad that scored 51 points in the first half.

Maggie Winesett finished with nine for East, which finished its season 9-18.

The Eagles had no trouble with their first playoff assignment on Tuesday, Feb. 27, dismissing Prairie Farm behind 68 first-half points.

Isaiah Kastern scored 20 on a short night, while Cade Lisson added 15.

The Eagles, No. 1 in the final Wisconsin Division 5 prep basketball poll of the season, will host Bruce in a Division 5 regional semifinal on Friday night.
