PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: NorthWood's 54-41 regional victory sets up semi-state showdown with Bremen

Feb. 11—JIMTOWN — The Black Swish are the last team standing.

Following losses by Northridge and Bethany Christian Saturday in their respective regional matchups, NorthWood (20-6) is the final TGN area team left standing after trouncing New Prairie in the fourth quarter 19-6 en route to a 54-41 regional win over the Cougars (20-6).

It's the first regional title since 2020 when the Panthers became state champions later that month. It's the 12th title in program history.

Junior Claire Payne controlled the glass by grabbing eight rebounds and swatting three blocks to go along with her team-high 18 points. She was followed by Megan Yoder (12 points), Haylee Heflin (10), Kinzee Hartman (9) and Callie Johnson (5).

NorthWood's postseason continues Saturday. The Black Swish will take on Bremen (15-11) at Huntington North High School in the 3A North semistate game at 12 p.m. If the Panthers come out on top, they'll face the winner of Hamilton Heights (24-2)/Norwell (21-4) in the 8 p.m. finale that night for the right to punch a ticket to the state championship at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis Feb. 24.
