Prep basketball roundup: Woodrow drops close one to Bridgeport

Woodrow Wilson 53

Class AAAA No. 10 Woodrow Wilson nearly fought back from an 11-point deficit but couldn't quite get there in a 55-53 loss to No. 6 Bridgeport in the Par Mar Stores Shootout.

Coby Dillon and Zyon Hawthorne both scored 17 for the Flying Eagles. Elijah Redfern added 12.

Phoenix Sickles led Bridgeport with 12 points.

Greenbrier West 71, Independence 69

Brayden McClung's 28 points led Greenbrier West in a narrow 71-69 win over Independence.

Tanner Hagy added 20 and Colton Dunbar 10 for the Cavaliers.

Independence had four double-digit scorers, led by Ashton Arthur with 19. Dalton Williams added 15, Sylas Nelson 13 and Ethan Williams 10,

James Monroe 78,

Meadow Bridge 40

Ryan Cole scored 20 points and Class A No. 2 James Monroe roared past Meadow Bridge 78-40.

Brady Baker added 12 points and Cooper Ridgeway 11 for the Mavericks.

Meadow Bridge got 14 from Brycen Sawyers.

Bluefield 32

Maddie Clark scored 16 points and Cadee Blackburn added 15 as Class AA No. 1 Wyoming East defeated Bluefield 60-32.

Bluefield got nine points from Cara Brown.

Greenbrier East 76,

James Monroe 51

Kennedy Stewart scored a game-high 30 points in Class AAAA No. 10 Greenbrier East's 76-51 win over Class A No. 6 James Monroe.

Ava Workman scored 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

Maggie Boroski led the Mavericks with 22 points. Mary Beth Meadows added 13, and Abigaill Mathis had 10 rebounds.

Elk Valley Christian 48, Victory Baptist 34

Avery Evans scored a game-high 23 points in Elk Valley Christian's 48-34 win over Victory Baptist.

Jada O'Neal scored 15 to lead the Saints (8-13), who will visit Ballard Christian on Friday.
