PREP BASKETBALL: Cullman's Dorough, Good Hope's McSwain named to North-South All-Star rosters

Mar. 25—Cullman's Jake Dorough and Good Hope's Ava McSwain each made the cut when the Alabama High School Athletic Directors and Coaches Association announced earlier in the month this year's North-South All-Star basketball rosters.

Both Dorough and McSwain were one of just 15 soon-to-be seniors selected to their respective North squads.

The hoops doubleheader will played in July as part of All-Star Sports Week in Montgomery.

Dorough averaged 17.5 points, 3.7 rebounds and 4.2 assists for the Bearcats this past season, helping them reach the Elite Eight. The Class 6A second-team All-State selection also shot 91 percent from the free-throw line, sank a school-record 10 3-pointers in a game and committed no turnovers during Cullman's playoff run.

McSwain, meanwhile, played a critical role in leading the Raiders to their first-ever state title.

She averaged 15.9 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.1 assists en route to netting Class 4A All-Northwest Regional Tournament (MVP) and All-State Tournament Team accolades. The first-team All-State selection also made 45 percent of her field-goal attempts.
