CLEVELAND – Over the last two days, the Trail Blazers have discussed how important it's going to be to closeout their six-game road trip with two wins, starting in Cleveland.
Portland has been without its team leader in Damian Lillard for the last two contests as the Blazers All-Star has been dealing with back spasms.
After not participating in shootaround on Thursday in Milwaukee, Lillard went through shootaround on Saturday. And now, after going through warm-ups, the Blazers announced that Lillard will play tonight.
With Lillard getting back on the floor in Cleveland, this will be the first time that he has played in a Trail Blazers game with Carmelo Anthony as his teammate.
At shootaround, Melo shared his excitement in getting out on the floor with Lillard.
"Just him being on the court, man. That was one of the reasons why I actually wanted to come here, and Portland wanted me here as well, just to have the opportunity to be on the court with Dame, and CJ and those guys," Melo said.
"If he's out on the court tonight it's going to be the start of something great," Anthony added. "It's something that we can establish. I'm just looking forward to him getting back on the court because I know what he brings to the game."
Coach Stotts confirmed that Hassan Whiteside (right hip) will not play tonight.
