The Powerpuff Girls is getting a live-action reboot series on The CW, and to be honest we're amazed it hasn't happened sooner.

According to Deadline, writer Diablo Cody (Juno, Jennifer's Body) is teaming up with Arrowverse boss Greg Berlanti to executive produce the series.

In a twist on the beloved Cartoon Network animation, this live-action adaptation will feature the pink, blue and superpowered sisters – Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup – as young adults, rather than kindergarten-aged girls.

The official synopsis for the series reads: "The Powerpuff Girls used to be America's pint-sized superheroes. Now they're disillusioned twenty-somethings who resent having lost their childhood to crime fighting. Will they agree to reunite now that the world needs them more than ever?"

For those deprived of a 'proper childhood', the animated Powerpuff Girls series followed the three young sisters who were accidentally created in a laboratory.

Blessed with individual superpowers, they took on the responsibility of regularly defending Townsville from evil threats, such as Mojo Jojo – a super-intelligent chimpanzee with a hat and cape.

Created by Craig McCracken, the show originally aired on Cartoon Network from 1998 to 2005, while also getting a movie in 2002. The series was rebooted in 2016 and ran new episodes up until 2019.

In 2017, the show introduced a fourth sister, catchily named Blisstina "Bliss" Francesca Francia Mariam Alicia Utonium. Fans weren't happy at the time since the girls actually already had a fourth sister named Bunny, who appeared once in the episode 'Twisted Sister'.

The Powerpuff Girls rebooted series will air on The CW.
