CHRIS HAYNES: In my latest story, an in-depth interview with Damian Lillard, I reveal, in this off-season-- we all know the off-season where he was contemplating if he was going to leave Portland --this past off-season, I reveal he met with LeBron James and Anthony Davis for lunch. And it was a meeting, [? at ?] just about the pros and cons of potentially leaving or potentially staying. He met LeBron at his house in Brentwood. This was a significant chapter in Damian Lillard's career, because we all know he bleeds Rip City. He bleeds Portland. He's always said he does not want to leave. Well, a few months ago, he contemplated that, and it was real serious. He was not thrilled at all about losing in the first round. He felt they should have made a deep run, and he called for the organization to make changes with the roster. That didn't happen. So this was his thought process over the first couple of months after the season ended. He wouldn't have taken that meeting with LeBron James if he was in a more happier state. So this just showed you, just the mindset of Damian Lillard, and how very real it was in him determining if he was going to leave Rip City. After that meeting with LeBron James, Damian Lillard still had reservations about joining a outside team or a Super Team. He made that clear to LeBron James. What changed Damian Lillard's mind? What got him to recommit to Portland? A couple of things. First of all, Chauncey Billups. That's where you have to give the president of basketball operations, Neil Olshay, you've got to give him props for bringing on Chauncey Billups. Damian Lillard loves Chauncey. We talked about his relationship with Chauncey, how it's grown, and how they have some of the same talking points and same beliefs on the court and off the court. So this is a individual that he believes in and really believes that he's going to be a great, valuable coach in this league. Now, the other aspect was Giannis Antetokounmpo. Look, I reported this last year. But the fact that Giannis was going to work out with Dame-- something he doesn't do with any other players-- speak volumes. Dame told me that seeing Giannis win in Milwaukee, staying true to his roots, staying with his team, building that way, that inspired him even more. And so, the aspect of Chauncey Billups' arrival, Giannis doing it in Milwaukee, where people say you can't build championship teams in small markets, that gave Dame a little bit more reassurance that he can pull it off. And he told me, I would just cry if I won here in Portland.
