Postecoglou on Maddison and Van de Ven injuries, transfers and growth
Joe Bradshaw, BBC Sport
Ange Postecoglou has been speaking to the media before Tottenham’s game at Wolves on Saturday.
Here are the key lines from his news conference:
Postecoglou has confirmed both James Maddison and Micky van de Ven will be out "until the new year": "With Micky, we knew it is fairly significant. With Madders, it is a lot worse than we thought."
He is hopeful Richarlison will only be out "for about a month" after he underwent planned groin surgery on Thursday.
Given Spurs also have Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie unavailable through suspension, Postecoglou was able to confirm Ben Davies was available.
However, the injuries will not precipitate knee-jerk transfers in January: "We have a fair few games between now and then and that is my focus. Johan [Lange, technical director] is in the building now and he will get all the information. We have had only one window to build our team so there was always a plan for January, the summer and beyond."
He was disappointed with the result on "an unusual night" against Chelsea: "The first 20 minutes was probably the best we have played all season but then a couple of moments where we lost our discipline turned the game on its head. The supporters appreciated the efforts of the players and it was another opportunity for us to grow as a group and as a club."
