What the Portland Trail Blazers believe Norman Powell will bring to the team originally appeared on NBC Sports Northwest

On Wednesday, The Portland Trail Blazers made a move that completely shifted the team’s roster.

Portland traded away Gary Trent Jr. and Rodney Hood for Toronto Raptors sixth-year shooting guard Norman Powell.

The move itself does excite a lot of fans about the offensive potential that Powell will bring to the table.

That also includes Blazers general manager Neil Olshey.

Olshey joined NBC Sports Blazer insider Dwight Jaynes and discussed what he sees Powell providing to the Blazers once he gets suited up for the first time.

He is one of the top three-point shooters in the league, he can create his own shot. He is a dynamic finisher, he on pace to be one of the top 50/40/90 guys.

This season for the Raptors, Powell is averaging a career-best in points per game at just under 20, a career-high in threes per game with just under three a game, and a career-best in three-point shooting at 43.9 percent.

So the Blazers will be getting a guy that knows how to score the ball.

Olshey also believes that Powell will be an excellent fit with Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum, just as he was a great fit with Kyle Lowry and Fred VanVleet in Toronto.

“We think he is an outstanding fit with Dame and CJ because of his defensive versatility,” Olshey said. “He has got the length to defend twos and threes, but he also has the foot speed and quickness to guard a lot of the point guards and take some of that pressure off Dame off the point of attack defensively.”

For Olshey, he belives that the fit that Powell will bring with this Blazer team is just another added bonus to an already great offense.

Now it will turn to the Blazers defense getting better as they made there way towards the playoffs.

At the end of the day, Olshey belives that bringing Powell is going to help the team improve on both sides of the court.

Now it is just waiting to see it actually all come together once Powell gets suited up for the Blazers for the first time.
