Police on scene of standoff in Loomis, nearby residents notified

Jun. 23—LOOMIS, S.D. — Authorities in Davison County have closed roads in an area of Loomis while actively working the scene of standoff.

Shortly after 1 p.m. Thursday, the Davison County Sheriff's Office and South Dakota Highway Patrol responded to Loomis for an unknown reason.

Authorities have blocked off multiple roads surrounding the small town for an incident occurring on Middle Street.

A Highway Patrol trooper on scene told the Mitchell Republic that residents in the surrounding area have been notified, but did not detail if there was any danger to the greater public.

Tony Mangan, public information officer for the South Dakota Highway Patrol, referred all questions to local authorities. Davison County Sheriff Steve Harr was on scene and unable to provide additional details.

Loomis is northwest of Mitchell about 9 miles.
