Police ask for help finding missing former XFL, Panthers RB Rod 'He Hate Me' Smart
Rod Smart, best known for his time in the XFL when he wore the “He Hate Me” nickname on the back of his jersey, has been missing for almost a week and police are asking for help to find him.
The Rock Hill Herald reported that Smart has been missing since late last week. The report said Smart was last seen on June 12 near Indian Land in South Carolina. Smart also played running back with the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles and Carolina Panthers from 2001-05.
UPDATE: On Tuesday evening, Mike Solarte of Spectrum News in Charlotte reported that authorities found Smart and he is safe.)
Both family and authorities said they were concerned about Smart’s safety.
Rod Smart has been missing almost a week
The Rock Hill Herald said police in Lancaster County asked the public to help find Smart, who has been missing for almost a week.
“Family and deputies have concerns about his well-being and safety,” Doug Barfield, spokesman for Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, told the Rock Hill Herald.
Smart has enduring fame due to his XFL career. The most famous player in the one-year league’s history might be Smart, who had “He Hate Me” on the back of his jersey. The XFL allowed players to use nicknames instead of last names on the backs of jerseys.
After Smart’s 2001 season with the XFL’s Las Vegas Outlaws, he got a shot with the NFL. He played with the Eagles for one season and the Panthers for four, mostly as a kick returner and special teams player.
Smart turned 42 in January.
