Mayweather/McGregor is almost here, against all odds and against all conventional wisdom. But how did we get to the point where a what-if scenario became the most profitable sporting event of 2017? On today’s episode of Yahoo’s Grandstanding podcast, we dig into the history of how this fight got made.

First, we talk with Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions. He gives us the lowdown on how this came together—spoiler, the fans and McGregor’s mouth deserve a decent share of the credit. Plus, he breaks down exactly how he thinks this fight will go … after a little prodding. Next, we talk with Yahoo Sports’ Dan Wetzel, who’s followed all the ridiculous/absurd press conferences leading up to the fight. He compares this fight to a carnival where you never quite know what you might see when you go into the tent of the freaks … and he’ll tell you why.
