Players to watch today: Sutter hosts Summerville to kick off SJS D-V playoffs

Feb. 9—The Sutter Union High girls soccer team begins its second straight run at a Sac-Joaquin Section title today when it hosts Summerville (13-8-2), out of Tuolumne, to begin the Division V bracket.

Sutter comes as the second-seed and 14-5-1 following a third place finish in its Pioneer Valley League finale.

Meanwhile, Summerville is the seventh-seed after placing third in the Mother Lode League.

The teams have yet to play since at least 2004. Kickoff will be 3 p.m. Saturday on campus at Sutter Union High School.

Live Oak completed a Sac Valley League title Thursday when it took down Winters on the road, 1-0, to finish 10-0 in league and 19-1-1 overall.

The game-winner came off the foot of Johanna Petrone — the athlete's 48th this year — courtesy of an assist from Mckayla Holmen as Live Oak enters into the postseason seeding meeting Saturday as the likely No. 1 seed in the Northern Section Division II playoffs set to begin next week.
