Player grades: Tyrese Maxey returns to lead Sixers over Wizards on the road

WASHINGTON — The Philadelphia 76ers began a quick 2-game road trip on Saturday night when they paid a visit to the nation’s capital to take on the Washington Wizards. It was the second night of a back-to-back which added to the challenge for an already short-handed Sixers team at the moment.

After a rough start in which the Wizards jumped out to an early lead, the Sixers buckled down on both ends of the floor and maintained a double-digit for most of the game. The final result was a 119-113 victory over a hapless Wizards squad and a step in the right direction for this group. Washington put on a furious comeback in the fourth, but the Sixers held on for this win.

Tyrese Maxey returned from a one-game absence and had 28 points, seven assists, and nine rebounds for the Sixers, Buddy Hield had 22 points, six assists, five rebounds, and four steals, Paul Reed had 12 and seven boards, and Kelly Oubre Jr. had 16 points and seven rebounds. Ricky Council IV had 19 and 10 rebounds while Tobias Harris added 11 and seven boards.
