Playboy tycoon Hugh Hefner was laid to rest in an incredibly private ceremony on Saturday, it has been reported.

Now sources have also claimed that Hefner was buried in his famous silk pyjamas, smoking jacket and cravet, with his captain’s cap and smoking pipe also being placed inside his coffin “in case he needed them in the afterlife”.

Speaking to The Daily Star, an insider explained: “Hef didn’t necessarily believe in God or heaven, but he thought he may as well hedge his bets and have his most treasured possessions in his coffin on the off-chance he would need them in an afterlife.”

The businessman’s funeral was attended by just a small group of people, including his wife Crystal Harris, his four children, Cooper, David, Marston, and Christie, and his closest members of staff.

The Playboy founder died on Wednesday at the age of 91, speaking in a statement, his son Cooper shared: “My father lived an exceptional and impactful life as a media and cultural pioneer and a leading voice behind some of the most significant social and cultural movements of our time in advocating free speech, civil rights and sexual freedom.

“He defined a lifestyle and ethos that lie at the heart of the Playboy brand, one of the most recognisable and enduring in history.
