Pictures of the decade: Reuters reveals most powerful images from 2010-2019

From political unrest to royal weddings, natural disasters and global turmoil, the last decade has provided some unforgettable visual moments.

Now the most striking images of the last 10 years have been selected for a ‘Pictures of the decade’ compilation by Reuters.

The royal wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton, US President Barack Obama watching Osama bin Laden’s death and Usain Bolt cruising to Olympic victory all made it on to the worldwide news agency’s photo list.

The most powerful images taken in the last ten years also include devastating natural disasters, armed conflicts and the plight of migrants.

A memorable image showed Prince William and his wife Catherine kissing on the balcony at Buckingham Palace on their wedding day on April 29, 2011.

Photographer Dylan Martinez said: “When I took that picture I didn’t really notice that girl holding her ears. What I noticed was that I had this really beautiful black background.”

A dramatic image of Usain Bolt looking at Andre De Grasse as they compete during the men’s 100m semi-finals at the 2016 Rio Olympics, in August 2016, also made the compilation.

Kai Pfaffenbach’s shot won the third prize for the sports singles category at the 2017 World Press Photo award.

Eduardo Munoz’s image showed an injured child receiving medical treatment after an earthquake in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, January 13, 2010.

There were many war-related pictures on the list but a photo from Carlos Garcia Rawlins that showed a Syrian refugee kissing his daughter was undoubtedly one of the most powerful.

They were pictured as they walked through a rainstorm toward Greece’s border with Macedonia on September 10, 2015.

Another image on the list showed US President Barack Obama and his team receive an update on the mission against Osama bin Laden on May 1, 2011.
