Steve Alexander makes it known that the Nets are giving more minutes to Nicolas Claxton and lays out why he's worth picking up now.
STEVE ALEXANDER: Nicolas Claxton has been making some noise for a few weeks now and he's an incredibly skilled and athletic young big man with massive fantasy potential. On the season he's averaging a very modest 9.3 points, 3.9 boards, 0.8 blocks, 1.6 steals, and 18 minutes a game. And that's a big reason why he's only rostered in 16% of Yahoo leagues.
But quietly, something interesting is happening right before our eyes as Claxton went from playing no more than 18 minutes in any of his March games to suddenly playing between 23 and 26 minutes in three straight. In those three games, he's averaging 11.3 points, 5 boards, and 2 blocks, which is actually a good thing in keeping that roster number at the point where he's still available in a lot of leagues.
Claxton blew up for 17 and 16 points in his first two games of March, hitting a combined 14 of 17 shots in them. But then he went on a bland single digit scoring spree over the next three before jumping into the 20 minute per game club last week. This is probably your last call on Claxton as it's only going to take one monster breakout performance, see Moses Brown, to make his roster percentage go through the roof. I don't know if the Nets are going to continue to give him close to 25 minutes per game, but it's a gamble definitely worth taking.
