Time to put yourself in Gareth Southgate's shoes again and pick an England World Cup starting XI, plus formation, as the Three Lions look to build on their opening victory over Tunisia and make it two from two with a win over Panama.

Thanks to a last-gasp goal from Harry Kane, England made a winning start to Russia 2018, beating Tunisia 2-1 in Volgograd. And they are firm favourites to beat minnows Panama before the Group G decider against Belgium.

The main talking points going into this Sunday's match are over team selection.

Former England defender Jamie Carragher believes Marcus Rashford should replace Raheem Sterling - who was unable to prevent his scoring drought from extending to 21 matches for the national side - explaining that the Manchester United forward is better suited to England's system.

Carragher noted that Rashford's positive contribution after he replaced Sterling in the 68th minute gave England the impetus to break down a stubborn Tunisia rearguard and said the 20-year-old's performance warrants a starting spot.

"England's system does not suit Sterling - or certainly not in the position he is currently occupying," the former Liverpool defender, who earned 38 caps for England, wrote in his column for The Telegraph.

"It is designed to enable (manager Gareth) Southgate to select more attack-minded, technical players with the added protection of three centre-backs and a holding midfielder.

"At the moment, England are effectively playing with three No 10s... all rely on their movement and pace rather than ability to open up defences with a cute pass. It makes Sterling's inclusion slightly illogical."

Dele Alli is a doubt for the game after a scan confirmed he suffered a minor strain in the victory over Tunisia. Even if he is passed fit later this week, Southgate could opt to rest Alli on Sunday rather than taking any risks over his fitness, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Fabian Delph competing to replace him.

Indeed, Loftus-Cheek did his chances no harm at all with a composed performance when coming on as a second-half substitute against Tunisia.

Danny Rose is breathing down Ashley Young's neck for the left wing-back role and Eric Dier is in contention for the holding midfield spot currently occupied by Jordan Henderson, who had one of this best games in an England shirt in the Tunisia game.

Jamie Vardy and Danny Welbeck are also available if you want to mix things up and play with two strikers or you could go completely off script and play a different formation entirely.

Good luck!
