Prized Texas recruit Mohamed Bamba was accused by his older brother in a rambling, profanity-laden FaceBook video of having accepted cash and gifts from a financial advisor in Michigan. Shirtless and sitting poolside, Johnson alleged that Bamba accepted $200 a week in cash, vacations and gifts, including a California king size bed, from Greer Love, who is a vice president at Huron Capital. Love has degrees from Indiana and Michigan and previously worked at Watch Hill Partners, an Investment Bank in New York, according to his Huron Capital bio.
When the Chicago Cubs made their second visit to the White House after winning the 2016 World Series — an “informal get together” with President Donald Trump on Wednesday afternoon — they were joined, as everyone anticipated, by Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert. It says here that Dan Gilbert, who owns the Cleveland Cavaliers, an NBA team, and not the Chicago Cubs, a Major League Baseball club, was not expected to be part of the Cubs’ visit to the White House on Wednesday.
Chris Paul essentially forcing a trade to the Houston Rockets was an earthquake that shook the Los Angeles Clippers and destroyed them as any kind of contender. First, there was the report that Paul had it with Doc Rivers because he and the team felt Austin Rivers gets favorable treatment. Now Doc Rivers entered the fray, defending his players saying Paul left he wanted to play with James Harden, via Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times (below is his comments from a series of Tweets combined).
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Much of Pat Summitt's life's work as a basketball legend was centered at Thompson-Boling Arena. The court is named after her, and the many great moments she shared with her Lady Vols and Tennessee fans still seem to linger in the air here, such was Summitt's aura. But a whole other part of her legacy is in a brick building 2.6 miles away at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. The Pat Summitt Clinic, which opened in January, is a state-of-the-art facility to provide care for Alzheimer's patients. To visit here or donate is akin to joining what will be, in fact, the biggest of all of Pat's teams: Those who fight this disease themselves, those who care for them, and those
Battle of the Network Stars is back, with MMA champion Ronda Rousey and Super Bowl winner DeMarcus Ware coaching competing teams of celebrities in various athletic events.
Jimmie Johnson typically does only a few things on Twitter: He talks about NASCAR, shares photos of his family and brilliantly shuts down trolls. But with one simple picture and caption, Johnson posted his thoughts – albeit a little late – on the so-called bathroom debate sparked by North Carolina’s controversial HB2 law, which was repealed in March. Johnson – a North Carolina resident who doesn’t usually get political – tweeted a photo of a bathroom sign that read “ALL GENDER RESTROOM” and said, “What a crazy concept.” As expected, this lit Johnson’s Twitter mentions on fire as people praised and chastised him, adding their own opinions to the mix.
The Bruins should not sign Kevin Shattenkirk. They really shouldn’t. Yet they might. Pierre McGuire said on TSN Radio Tuesday that his guess is that Shattenkirk, arguably the best free agent defenseman on the market, will end up in Boston. It is remarkable how universally against a Shattenkirk megadeal B’s fans have seemingly been. A Twitter poll with over 3,600 votes this month had Bruins fans preferring Boston sign 40-year-old Zdeno Chara to a two-year, $8 million extension than the 28-year-old Shattenkirk to a seven-year, $45.5 million deal. That is obviously the correct conclusion, but considering how hard the false “Chara is old and bad” garbage is pushed in this town, it’s telling that
By Jim Forsyth SAN ANTONIO (Reuters) - A wine industry businessman and financial manager was sentenced to four years in prison on Wednesday for defrauding millions of dollars from former National Basketball Association star Tim Duncan. Charles Banks, 49, had faced up to 20 years in prison after he pleaded guilty in April to one count of wire fraud regarding an investment he urged Duncan to make in a firm called Gameday Entertainment, which Banks headed. U.S. District Judge Fred Biery also ordered Banks pay $7.5 million to Duncan in restitution.
When Taco Charlton got drafted by the Dallas Cowboys, it seemed likely that a Mexican restaurant was going to make a deal with the former University of Michigan defensive end. "We had meetings with a bunch of restaurants that sell tacos and we were looking for a long-term relationship," Charlton's agent, Joel Segal, said. The winner of the sweepstakes to land Charlton was revealed Tuesday, and Taco Bueno prevailed. The 3,000-employee company has more than 180 stores in seven states, but roughly half of those restaurants are within the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area. "I actually fell asleep towards the back end of the first round of the draft," Taco Bueno CEO Mike Roper said. "But when I woke up
Yesterday, TSN’s Pierre LeBrun reported 12 teams were in contact with San Jose’s Joe Thorton who, on Saturday, will become an unrestricted free agent. Now, it’s been revealed that one of those teams is also one of San Jose’s biggest rivals — the Los Angeles Kings. Per LA Kings Insider, the Kings have “been in contact” with Thornton, who just wrapped the last of a three-year, $20.25 million deal with a $6.75M average annual cap hit.
OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – Lexi Thompson comes into the year’s second major with a heavy burden as her mother, Judy, undergoes treatment for uterine cancer. “It has been devastating news to the whole Thompson family,” said agent Bobby Kreusler, who also represents Lexi’s brothers, Curtis and Nicholas. Thompson comes into the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship June 29-July 3 as a heavy favorite, having notched a record-breaking victory at the Kingsmill Championship and a pair of runner-up finishes since that devastating loss at the ANA Inspiration. Last week Thompson was home in Coral Springs, Fla., to hold her mother’s hand as she underwent radiation therapy. It marked the first time she’d been home since
For the first time in ages, the Detroit Red Wings missed the playoffs. Look, one or even a couple of potential free agent signings won’t disqualify the Red Wings from going younger. Daley was mentioned by The Athletic’s Craig Custance, MLive.com’s Ansar Khan, and the Detroit Free-Press’ Helene St. James. Khan and Custance both mention Hainsey and Girardi, too.
(@trailblazers/Twitter) Chris Paul’s trade to the Houston Rockets may have shaken up social media, but the day’s best Twitter reaction had nothing to do with Paul at all. After Portland traded shooting guard Tim Quarterman to the Rockets for cash considerations
BOSTON It doesnt really matter whats holding Hanley Ramirez back: his health, his desire to play through injuries, neither, both. The Red Sox need him to hit better as the designated hitter, or give someone else a chance in his place. From May 27 on, Ramirez is hitting .202 with a .216 on-base percentage and .369 slugging percentage.
Enter the Kirk Cousins situation, which periodically will become the focal point of #breakingnews as the true pay-or-get-off-the-pot moment arrives. As noted last week, anything said about Cousins is “noise” for now, and nothing is going on between himself and the team. The safer guess at this point is that a deal won’t get done, primarily because Washington has done nothing over the past two years to show a willingness to get a deal done on the player’s terms.
The Beast Mode Train rolls on. Marshawn Lynch continues to set himself up as the guy to watch in 2017, not only for what he’s doing for the Oakland Raiders on the field, but also what he’s doing for the fans off it. The latest move: giving away 2,000
BOSTON – While the newest Boston Celtics were scattered about while at a community service event, 19-year-old Jayson Tatum was sitting in a really comfortable-looking chair, resting. The past few weeks have been a whirlwind unlike any he had ever experienced, beginning with the pre-draft process, to workouts, to the draft itself and all the appearances and media engagements that have followed. “It’s a lot,” Tatum, grinning, told CSNNE.com. “But I’m taking it one day at a time.” That steady-as-she-goes approach served him well during his lone season at Duke. Keeping an even-keeled approach will bode well for him as he gears up for his first taste of NBA basketball beginning with summer league

Dmitry Kulikov had a bad season in Buffalo. Not only did the defenseman struggle statistically, finishing minus-26 with just two goals and three assists, he also had trouble staying healthy, appearing in just 47 games for the Sabres. It’s why the Sabres were so happy to get him.
Freddie Freeman tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he’s hoping to be activated from the disabled list on July 9 for the beginning of a series versus the Nationals. At the time he was expected to miss ten weeks, which would’ve put his return date around July 27 or later. Freeman will take live batting practice Wednesday and if that goes well will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett on Saturday.
Just days after Lonzo Ball went to the Lakers with the No. 2 pick and LaVar Ball proclaimed himself a prophet, the family put itself under the bright lights once again as part of WWE’s ‘RAW.’ And while LaVar’s antics were predictably a mix of outlandish, hilarious and nauseating, it is what his youngest son, LaMelo, said that has created a nightmare for the WWE and put the family in some hot water.
Does Sen. Ted Cruz have a secret twin? The Texas Republican shared an image of himself and Chicago Cubs owner Tom Ricketts, but something stood out to viewers more than the team’s first World Series trophy in 108 years. It was how similar the two men look
Robert Gsellman left Tuesday night's game in the fourth inning with a left hamstring strain. He is expected to miss at least three weeks, though how long he's out will ultimately depend on the severity of the strain. In either case, it means both Tyler Pill and Rafael Montero could be in the team's rotation at the same time, depending on if Zack Wheeler is ready to return Saturday. I don't blame you for being confused. I'm confused. The roster is impossible to track. In February, everyone, including Terry Collins, talked endlessly about how life would be this season when finally getting to watch Noah Syndergaard, Jacob deGrom, Matt Harvey, Steven Matz, and Wheeler pitch every fifth day during
Clinton Portis was a fun guy to be around during his days as a star NFL running back. He had several luxury homes and was always quick to pick up the tab for an expensive meal. And those hilarious costumes he wore and crazy personae he assumed during postgame interviews were classic. But just a year or so after his 2012 retirement, that same guy found himself in his parked car with a loaded gun for several late nights and early mornings in a row, waiting to commit murder. “It wasn’t no ’beat up,’” Portis, 35, said of his malevolent intentions in a Sports Illustrated feature published Wednesday. “It was ‘kill.’” Portis lived a lavish lifestyle during his NFL days, but the former Denver Broncos
