Luis Suarez stole the spotlight at the 2014 FIFA World Cup. But not for scoring any goals. Right before Diego Godin's game-winning goal, Suarez was caught apparently biting Giorgio Chiellini on the shoulder. Suarez was pictured holding his teeth on the floor while Chiellini tried to show the referee three bite marks ingrained on his shoulder.
While we wait for FIFA to investigate the incident, here are other athletes who decided to take a bite out of their opponents. Luis Suarez earned the nickname: "Cannibal of Ajax" and a seven match ban when he bit PSV's Ottmar Bakkal. Defoe, then playing for Tottenham Hotspur, bit West Ham's Javier Mascherano on the arm. Defoe somehow escaped without sanction. Sevilla's Francisco Gallardo certainly has a strange way of celebrating goals. The Spaniard bit Jose Antonio Reyes in the groin after his teammate scored a goal. A high-five just wasn't enough. A few years before the Detroit Pistons' Bad Boys tussled with Larry Bird's Boston Celtics, the Atlanta Hawks and Tree Rollins made the first swing. Rollins and Danny Ainge got into a scuffle during a 1983 NBA Playoffs game. Rollins elbowed Ainge in the face and the Celtics' current President of Basketball Operations shoved him to the ground. The two began to wrestle and Rollins bit Ainge's finger. Ainge was ejected.
