Lucas Moura has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have the talent to win the Champions League this season. Speaking after making his full debut for the club, following his £25million move from Paris Saint-Germain the January transfer window, Lucas said he had joined Spurs to “make history”. The 25-year-old scored his first Spurs goal on his full debut, and produced an impressive performance, in the 2-2 draw away to League One Rochdale in the FA Cup on Sunday. Speaking afterwards Lucas said that performances such as in another 2-2 draw, a few days earlier away to Juventus in the first leg of Spurs last-16 Champions League tie, meant they have the “capacity” to win the competition. “Why not? The Champions League is the most difficult cup but I think we have the capacity to win it,” Lucas said. “If you always think in positives, always work hard. I think we did a big game against Juventus away. I am so happy with my new team.” Lucas claimed that the Spurs side he has recently joined compares favourably with PSG. “I am 25 years old but I think I won a lot of experience with PSG and I think I can help Tottenham,” the Brazilian winger said. “I think we have a lot of quality and a great structure and I think we can arrive at the end of the season with a trophy. “It’s always important to win. Every player wants to win trophies, to make history and I am here to make history with my new friends, my new team-mates. I believe that because we have a lot of quality, a great structure – I am really impressed – and I think we can dream with the Champions League.” Spotland was the venue for Lucas’ first start of a difficult season for him while he had to be sold by PSG in January to help them meet the requirements of Uefa’s Financial Fair Play regulations following their world record signing of his friend, Neymar, last summer. Lucas Moura trains with PSG teammates Credit: REUTERS Lucas made just six substitute appearances, and played just 76 minutes of first-team football, for PSG and spoke of his frustration at not playing. “It’s difficult to explain, I’m so happy,” he said of the move to Spurs and making his first start. “Since August I have not started a game. Now I start and I’m so happy. This is my new team, my new friends. I want to say thanks to God because I’m very happy. “It’s too difficult for a player when we don’t play. We want always to be on the pitch, to play. In this time I worked very hard, I stayed always positive. I worked and I wait for my new opportunity today and I think I played a good game and I am so happy for that.”
