Not too long ago some rumors popped up about Bryce Harper wanting to sign with the Cubs when he hits free agency following the 2018 season. With the Cubs in town to face the Nationals, Harper was asked about those rumors again.
When the Chicago Cubs made their second visit to the White House after winning the 2016 World Series — an “informal get together” with President Donald Trump on Wednesday afternoon — they were joined, as everyone anticipated, by Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert. It says here that Dan Gilbert, who owns the Cleveland Cavaliers, an NBA team, and not the Chicago Cubs, a Major League Baseball club, was not expected to be part of the Cubs’ visit to the White House on Wednesday.
BOSTON — Hanley Ramirez on Wednesday afternoon acknowledged his shoulders are bothering him more this year than last year. In specific, it’s the right (throwing) shoulder that’s bothersome, he said to CSNNE, noting it just doesn’t move as he wants it to — rotating his arm as he spoke. Asked how that happened, how it worsened, he said it was in spring training that he thinks he pushed it too hard. On the positive side, Ramirez said his shoulders are improving. "Honestly, yeah, it's feeling better now," Ramirez told a group of reporters. "It's started feeling better now than early in the year. I can use the top hand and drop a little bit the head of the bat. I was losing that. I was talking to
Kristaps Porzingis skipped his exit meeting with the Knicks to express his frustration with the way the organization is being run. Instead, Phil Jackson took it as a slight and threatened to trade Porzingis to send a message. Add that to a treatment of Carmelo Anthony that has free agents seeing the Knicks as a refuge of last resort, not to mention forcing the triangle offense on players who do not want, and there’s a lot of reasons to question Phil Jackson’s leadership of the Knicks.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Much of Pat Summitt's life's work as a basketball legend was centered at Thompson-Boling Arena. The court is named after her, and the many great moments she shared with her Lady Vols and Tennessee fans still seem to linger in the air here, such was Summitt's aura. But a whole other part of her legacy is in a brick building 2.6 miles away at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. The Pat Summitt Clinic, which opened in January, is a state-of-the-art facility to provide care for Alzheimer's patients. To visit here or donate is akin to joining what will be, in fact, the biggest of all of Pat's teams: Those who fight this disease themselves, those who care for them, and those
Vince Young remains one of the great what-ifs in recent NFL history. Blessed with physical gifts unlike any quarterback in the league, he nonetheless found trouble at every turn in the NFL. • The Titans had a choice of Young, Matt Leinart and Jay Cutler.

By Jim Forsyth SAN ANTONIO (Reuters) - A wine industry businessman and financial manager was sentenced to four years in prison on Wednesday for defrauding millions of dollars from former National Basketball Association star Tim Duncan. Charles Banks, 49, had faced up to 20 years in prison after he pleaded guilty in April to one count of wire fraud regarding an investment he urged Duncan to make in a firm called Gameday Entertainment, which Banks headed. U.S. District Judge Fred Biery also ordered Banks pay $7.5 million to Duncan in restitution.
For the first time in ages, the Detroit Red Wings missed the playoffs. Look, one or even a couple of potential free agent signings won’t disqualify the Red Wings from going younger. Daley was mentioned by The Athletic’s Craig Custance, MLive.com’s Ansar Khan, and the Detroit Free-Press’ Helene St. James. Khan and Custance both mention Hainsey and Girardi, too.
The Bruins should not sign Kevin Shattenkirk. They really shouldn’t. Yet they might. Pierre McGuire said on TSN Radio Tuesday that his guess is that Shattenkirk, arguably the best free agent defenseman on the market, will end up in Boston. It is remarkable how universally against a Shattenkirk megadeal B’s fans have seemingly been. A Twitter poll with over 3,600 votes this month had Bruins fans preferring Boston sign 40-year-old Zdeno Chara to a two-year, $8 million extension than the 28-year-old Shattenkirk to a seven-year, $45.5 million deal. That is obviously the correct conclusion, but considering how hard the false “Chara is old and bad” garbage is pushed in this town, it’s telling that

Now, it’s been revealed that one of those teams is also one of San Jose’s biggest rivals — the Los Angeles Kings. Per LA Kings Insider, the Kings have “been in contact” with Thornton, who just wrapped the last of a three-year, $20.25 million deal with a $6.75M average annual cap hit.
There is no better defensive third baseman in baseball than Nolan Arenado. Some may come close, but no one provides the same range, ability and throwing power as Arenado. The Colorado Rockies third baseman has won a Gold Glove award every year he’s been in the league.
Freddie Freeman tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he’s hoping to be activated from the disabled list on July 9 for the beginning of a series versus the Nationals. At the time he was expected to miss ten weeks, which would’ve put his return date around July 27 or later. Freeman will take live batting practice Wednesday and if that goes well will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett on Saturday.
A look at what's happening all around the majors Thursday: KERSHAW DAY The Los Angeles Dodgers send Clayton Kershaw to the mound for the finale of their four-game Freeway Series against the rival Angels. Kershaw is 7-0 with a 2.38 ERA in his last 10 starts. The three-time NL Cy Young Award winner is 5-2 with a 2.69 ERA in nine career starts against the Angels. He will be opposed by JC Ramirez, who pitched six effective innings in a win at Boston in his previous start on Saturday. SLIDING ROCKIES The Colorado Rockies get a sorely needed day off before beginning a weekend series at surging Arizona. Colorado has dropped a season-high eight in a row, falling off the pace in the loaded NL West. The
Dorell Wright played for the Warriors in 2010-11 and 2011-12. He spent a lot of time with Steph Curry and Klay Thompson. Did he think they would end up being this good? "Yeah. I seen it because they put the time in, they put the work in," Wright told Alex Kennedy on the HoopsHype Podcast. "Sometimes we'd have to go talk to Steph like, 'Yo, you know we got a game tonight? You're going pretty hard.' "He's a little different, man. He takes coaching and advice from everybody. If you're telling him something that's gonna better him and help him, he's gonna sit there and listen to you. He's not gonna be one of those guys that thinks he knows everything. "I'm happy for his success ... I'm just happy
Just days after Lonzo Ball went to the Lakers with the No. 2 pick and LaVar Ball proclaimed himself a prophet, the family put itself under the bright lights once again as part of WWE’s ‘RAW.’ And while LaVar’s antics were predictably a mix of outlandish, hilarious and nauseating, it is what his youngest son, LaMelo, said that has created a nightmare for the WWE and put the family in some hot water.
Cristiano Ronaldo will not play in Portugal’s third-place match at the 2017 Confederations Cup this Sunday. Ronaldo, 32, was released from Portugal’s squad late Wednesday after their defeat on penalty kicks to Chile in the Confed Cup semifinals in Russia. The Real Madrid and Portugal superstar will now travel to visit his new twin sons, who were born via a surrogate earlier this month, with Ronaldo set to meet them for the first time after captaining Portugal in Russia over the past few weeks. According to reports from Portuguese TV channel SIC, the surrogate mother was based on the west coast of the U.S. (I can already hear you guys asking ‘does that mean they’re eligible to play for the USMNT?’).
Bill Belichick is not known as a jovial guy. Nantucket is the town Belichick calls home during much of the off-season, and this month he, along with his longtime partner Linda Holliday, discussed their love of the town while appearing on the cover of the magazine.

The Kings have a decent crop of low-paid young players: Buddy Hield, Willie Cauley-Stein, Skal Labissiere, Georgios Papagiannis and Malachi Richardson. Soon, Sacramento will add a highly paid young player to the group: Bogdan Bogdanovic, whose rights the Kings acquired when trading down from No. 8 with the Suns in last year’s draft. BREAKING: Sources tell me Kings to sign Serb guard Bogdan Bogdanovic to 3 year/$36 million contract on July 6.
When Taco Charlton got drafted by the Dallas Cowboys, it seemed likely that a Mexican restaurant was going to make a deal with the former University of Michigan defensive end. "We had meetings with a bunch of restaurants that sell tacos and we were looking for a long-term relationship," Charlton's agent, Joel Segal, said. The winner of the sweepstakes to land Charlton was revealed Tuesday, and Taco Bueno prevailed. The 3,000-employee company has more than 180 stores in seven states, but roughly half of those restaurants are within the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area. "I actually fell asleep towards the back end of the first round of the draft," Taco Bueno CEO Mike Roper said. "But when I woke up
