There’s been plenty of talent that has been selected during the NFL draft, but what can often be swept under the rug is how those picks come to be. The Patriots original slate of draft picks has seen tons of movement.
Will Ronda Rousey return, won't she return? Has been question widely discussed since the California native's brutal knockout at the hands of Amanda Nunes at Las Vegas in December last year. The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) bantamweight title fight against Nunes was Rousey's second consecutive loss with the previous one coming 13-months before when she surrendered the same title to Holly Holm.
Better times: Doug Whaley, left, with Bills owners Terry and Kim Pegula last June. “After a thorough review of our football operations over the past several months, Kim and I informed Doug this morning that we will be moving in a new direction.
Bob Baffert is sitting out the Kentucky Derby, and not by choice. Having the four-time Derby-winning trainer without at least one horse in the race for just the second time in 11 years indicates what an unpredictable winter it’s been leading to the start of the Triple Crown. Baffert’s best horse, Mastery, got hurt after crossing the finish line first in the San Felipe Stakes. None of his other 3-year-olds developed into Derby material. Instead, he’ll aim for the $1 million Kentucky Oaks for fillies on Derby eve. This year’s road to the 143rd Derby derailed other contenders because of injuries, including now-retired Not This Time, Klimt and Syndergaard. “The amazing thing of getting a horse to
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Pittsburgh Penguins took a commanding 2 game lead against the Capitals in the second round of the NHL playoffs on Saturday night. The Penguins faithful gathered outside the steps of the National Portrait Gallery, which is opposite of the Verizon Center, to celebrate the win and trolled the Capitals with an absolutely savage banner. Brutal. The Capitals haven’t made it past the second round of the NHL playoffs since 1998, a fact that they’re very well aware of. The Capitals and Penguins meet again in Game 3 on Monday night.

Not even a late-April tournament date could spare the Pac-12 Championship from some typical Colorado weather. The second round of Pac-12s at Boulder Country Club was suspended Saturday because of, yep, snow. There was a 30-minute snow delay on Friday before most teams were able to finish their second rounds. Scores reflected the difficult conditions, as players wrapped up Friday in 25-degree temperatures with a snow/sleet mix. Only two players are under par – Oregon’s Wyndham Clark and Washington’s Carl Yuan, with two holes to play in their second round – and the defending champion Ducks lead the way at 16 over par. Top-ranked USC is 31 over after two rounds of the play-six, count-five format.
Back in L.A., the Chargers are trying to make a good first impression and climb out of the AFC West cellar. Mike Williams, WR, Clemson: The Chargers always looked like a potential sleeper landing spot for a wide receiver-Keenan Allen has had a hard time staying healthy, and they relied on players outperforming expectations last year. Williams gives QB Philip Rivers a big, physical receiver, something with which Rivers always has had great success.
Dennis Schroder is averaging 24.4 points and 7.2 assists this postseason. Dennis Schroder was back home in Germany, riding around in his car last summer when his cellphone started ringing incessantly and the text messages flooded in at such an alarming rate that he had to pull over. Schroder checked his Instagram account and immediately understood the hysteria: The Atlanta Hawks were dealing Jeff Teague to the Indiana Pacers, meaning that the starting point-guard spot that Schoder so desired, and shamelessly declared should be his, was suddenly going to belong to him.
Well, ladies and gentlemen, we have made it to the end of the 2017 NFL Draft! All of the picks are in, and now the second half of the process can get underway. This will be the place where we curate all of the rumors and innuendo. . .and probably some actual signings, too. . .of players in the scramble for Undrafted Free Agents across the National Football League. It might not be as glorious as the actual draft itself, but the Undrafted Free Agent process is a big part of building an NFL team. After all, there are a ton of players that slip through the cracks that will find their way onto NFL rosters this coming season. And who could forget that one of the greatest Vikings of all time, defensive
Honda Formula 1 chief Yusuke Hasegawa has defended the decision to redesign its power unit layout for 2017 despite suffering a number of reliability and performance issues at the start of the season. Entering its third year since returning to F1 as an engine supplier, Honda looked to make gains by revising the layout of its power unit to mirror that of pace-setter Mercedes. The decision appeared to backfire, though, with a lack of both performance and reliability leaving customer team McLaren frustrated and without a single point after three races.
The Yahoo Sports fantasy football crew discusses the potential impact of Ohio State RB Curtis Samuel with the the Carolina Panthers.
When UFC president Dana White first met Conor McGregor he didn't know that he was talking to a future two-division UFC champion. He wasn't sure if McGregor was a good fighter or not, but he instantly recognized McGregor's potential star power. Superstars don't come around everyday.
"Bye, Felicia" is just a tremendous dismissal of anyone for any reason, basically. The actress paying Felicia* in that scene is Angela Means Kaaya, mother of former four-star Miami Hurricanes starting quarterback Brad Kaaya, of West Hills, Calif. College football fans who know how frequently these bio tidbits get mentioned by announcers during games can prepare to hear her name a few times this season. "I feel blessed," Means Kaaya said with both hands on her heart.
The Pearsons got the perfect gift from their favorite football team. This Is Us stars Mandy Moore and Milo Ventimiglia made a special appearance at Heinz Field, home of the Pittsburgh Steelers, to help announce the team’s day three NFL draft picks. Since the Steelers are the Pearsons’ team and have been getting all this free promotion on the NBC hit series, the team gifted the actors custom-made jerseys with their character names printed on the back.
The PGA Tour handed out its first pace of play penalty in 22 years during the first round of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans Thursday. The team of Miguel Angel Carballo and Brian Campbell were each given a bad time for taking too long to execute their shots (under the current rules of golf, players have 40 seconds). A penalty of one stroke is only given out following two bad times (the first receives a warning), but since the team is playing as one player, both Carballo and Campbell's bad times were combined, resulting in an extra stroke being assessed.
Dominic Thiem upset top-ranked Andy Murray 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 to advance to the final against defending champion Rafael Nadal at the Barcelona Open on Saturday. Nadal beat Horacio Zeballos of Argentina 6-3, 6-4 after the fourth-seeded Thiem dispatched with Murray in windy conditions at the Real Club de Tenis. Murray's defeat came a week after he exited the third round in Monte Carlo.
If there’s one thing that’s been in short order for the Bulls over the last year or so, clarity would be first on the list. The Bulls’ front office signed players like Wade and Rajon Rondo last summer for the “now”, and then traded dependable veteran Taj Gibson for the “future”, along with management’s repeated flirtations with the prospect of trading Jimmy Butler for the last two years. The only thing consistent about the Bulls’ front office strategy has been the inconsistency and their desire to have flexibility in the future. For the now, they’ve positioned themselves to have flexibility to go in one direction or the other, to be contenders or hit the button on a rebuild that could take years to recover from.
The Cowboys 2017 draft started with seven selections, but ended up nine deep. A trade into the first-half of the sixth round, and a trade back later in the sixth netted Dallas two additional selections. It seems at the end of the day the Cowboys used their picks wisely, because the competition for playing time and defensive end and all four secondary positions looks to be intense. Here’s our idea of where the depth chart stands right now, or should stand, as offseason work begins next weekend with the rookie minicamp. Only two draft picks on offense means little change to the depth chart. The most noticeable adjustment is pushing Lucky Whitehead out of the picture when it comes to slot play and
Sebastian Vettel was quick to heap praise on the Ferrari Formula 1 team after taking his second pole position for the Italian marque in qualifying for the Russian Grand Prix on Saturday. Vettel edged teammate Kimi Raikkonen by just 0.059 seconds in the final stage of qualifying to grab his first pole position since the 2015 Singapore Grand Prix, heading up a Ferrari one-two, the first since France 2008. The result saw Ferrari end Mercedes’ 18-race streak of pole positions and continue its impressive start to the season that has seen Vettel win two of the first three races.
The Orioles still have a 14-7 record and are still tied for first place. The Orioles lost one of the most painful regular season games that theyve played this decade on Friday night. The Orioles lost to the Yankees and tomorrows game still starts 0-0, no matter how much this one hurt.
Packers General Manager Ted Thompson bailed out of the first round last night, and he wants to make sure everyone knows the top pick of the second round is available. Via Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com, Thompson made it clear tonight’s first choice (the 33rd overall) is very much for sale. “Oh yeah, you can put that down,” Thompson said. “That will save us a couple of phone calls. We’re taking calls.” The Packers bypassed the chance to pick 29th last night when the Browns had to have tight end David Njoku. For their troubles, they got the 33rd and 108th picks, giving Thompson the first picks tonight and tomorrow (when the fourth round begins). What he’s hoping for is a bidding war to develop today.
If you’ve been watching football for a while, as I’d presume if you’re reading this, you have had, you’ve no doubt seen many free kicks taken, and a few even scored from. You might recall perfect left-footed curlers from Marcos Alonso. You might recall perfect right-footed curlers from Willian. You might recall knuckle-ballers from the likes of David Luiz or Didier Drogba or Cristiano Ronaldo. You might even recall other famous free kicks and free kick-takers from down the years. Whenever I’m asked about free kicks, for example, I invariably end up talking at least briefly about Thomas Häßler, who was famously tiny and had even tinier feet, which as my anecdote goes, allowed him to put the most
Former UFC flyweight title challenger Ali Bagautinov performed well last night (Fri., April 28, 2017) at Fight Nights Global 64 in Moscow, Russia, in his first MMA appearance since leaving UFC earlier this year. Unfortunately for Bagautinov, he was unable to put a cherry on top of his rather dominating outing as WSOF veteran Tyson Nam slammed the Russian with a brutal head kick with one second left on the clock. Bagautinov was out on his feet before he hit the canvas and Nam walked away like he was Mark Hunt. The full fight can be seen above courtesy of Fight Nights TV, while the scintillating finish can be seen below: Bagautinov, 31, has now four out of his last five. While the hard-hitting
