On an emotional day in Boston, it seems only fitting that the long shot American hopeful would cross the finish line first. Meb Keflezighi, an Eritrea-born American, won the 2014 Boston Marathon. Keflezighi is more than just a runner, he has a unique story that makes him the perfect winner for this meaningful marathon. Take a look at 15 reasons why Keflezighi is amazing.

Keflezighi  graduated from UCLA in 1999 with a bachelor’s degree in communications and a specialization in business. He is UCLA’s most-accomplished distance runner. Keflezighi won four NCAA titles during his junior year, sweeping the cross country, outdoor 5,000 meters, and indoor 5,000 and 10,000 meters. Keflezighi earned a total of 12 All-America honors in his four-year Bruin career. — UCLA
