#MermaidKlay? Photo of Dubs star on beach inspires artwork originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea
Klay Thompson is a beach bum, but an artist might have taken his affinity for the ocean to a new level.
Last week, Thompson posted a trio of photos of himself on a beach somewhere stretching and getting some fresh air.
As you know by now, anytime Klay does anything unusual, a funny hashtag is born to commemorate the moment.
In this case, #MermaidKlay was created.
Earlier this year, #KayakKlay was born when Thompson posted video of himself floating out in the San Francisco Bay.
Then, earlier this month, Thompson gave us #NerfKlay when he posted an ad for the toy.
Former Warriors guard Shaun Livingston joined the "Runnin' Plays" podcast in September, and spoke to hosts Kerith Burke and Grant Liffmann about what makes Thompson such a great teammate. Naturally, #ChinaKlay came up.
"That he is that free spirit," Livingston -- now the Warriors' director, players affairs and engagement -- said. "He's not judgmental, you can tell him anything. And then some of the things that he might say or do, you're just like, 'What?' And then you're like, 'Oh. He's a free spirit. OK. I get it.'
"The 'China Klay' (thing) -- that's amazing. I never would have pictured that. But, you see it, and you're like, 'That's Klay.' "
Thompson is the gift that keeps on giving. He is a treasure to Dub Nation.
#MermaidKlay might not stick, but the artwork still is pretty cool.
