Blister knocks Phillies pitching prospect Griff McGarry out of action originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia

ST. LOUIS -- Scratch prospect Griff McGarry as a possibility to join the big club and provide some innings in Toronto next week. The electric-armed right-hander came out of Wednesday's start for Double A Reading with a blister on his middle finger and has been placed on the injured list.

McGarry had been mentioned as a possibility to join the Phillies for a cameo Tuesday in Toronto. The Phils are expected to be down a few players who are not in compliance with Canada's COVID-19 vaccine rules and could look to the minors for reserves.

The Phils shuffled their pitching rotation for Friday night's game and moved Zack Wheeler ahead of Kyle Gibson. Wheeler can make the trip to Toronto and lines up to pitch Wednesday night against the Blue Jays. Gibson will pitch Saturday afternoon in St. Louis. His turn then won't come up again until next Friday in Miami.

The Phils will not have to make any roster moves until Tuesday morning. Unvaccinated position players will have to go on the restricted list and forfeit two days salary and service time. An unvaccinated starting pitcher can simply skip the trip to Toronto if his turn to pitch does not come up.

ROSTER MOVES

Reliever Michael Kelly was called up from Triple A to replace lefty Bailey Falter, who was sent to Triple A after his start Thursday.

Lefty Kent Emanuel, who could be a candidate for big-league work soon, came off the 60-day injured list and was reinstated to the 40-man roster. He was optioned to Triple A. Lefty reliever Sam Clay was designated for assignment.
